Katrina Marcelo | Patent Agent

Katrina partners with clients ranging from individual inventors and early-stage startups to multinational corporations to protect their intellectual property. She cross-functionally collaborates with multiple operational areas of a client's team to develop a comprehensive understanding of the client's technology, business objectives, and competitive landscape to create intellectual property strategies that provide competitive advantages and drive revenue.

Katrina's experience includes preparing and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications, as well as strategic portfolio development and management, portfolio mining, patent due diligence, patentability analyses, third-party patent analyses, and post-grant proceedings. Her technical expertise is in medical devices and biomechanics and includes neuromodulation, neurostimulation, interventional neurovascular devices, interventional cardiovascular devices, structural heart devices, orthopedic implants, prosthetics and orthotics, orthodontics, microfluidics, point-of-care diagnostics, diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound, gait analysis, wearable sensors, additive manufacturing, carbon fiber composites, and sports equipment.

Katrina earned her Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington, where she developed finite element analysis techniques to facilitate the design of novel orthopedic implants and orthoses. She has also conducted academic research in wearable sensors for digital health applications and microfluidic devices and completed internships at Medtronic Neurovascular, Medtronic Structural Heart, VICIS, and Teco Diagnostics. Katrina is an active member of the local biotechnology and medical device communities and has served as an instructor for the Engineering Innovation in Health program at the University of Washington and as the president of the BioEngage program at the University of Washington.

Outside of work, Katrina enjoys running, golfing, cooking and baking, reading, playing board games with her husband Christian, and playing with her labradoodle Kaladin.
